The Best Solution for Search
Engine Optimization
Top 10 Steps To 10,000 Visitors
Daily In A Year
Have you considered using Google's free listings to help make your Web business
successful? Clint Dixon offers 10 keys to achieving this goal.
Often I hear or have read of companies which have their sites optimized by
search engine optimization (SEO) firms. They often feel that they have not
received a corresponding increase in traffic. Within a couple of months, they're
ready to start searching for a new search engine marketing partner.
Many website owners mistakenly believe that optimizing their site for free
results listings on the front page of search engines will draw huge amounts of
traffic to their site. After a month or two of waiting for Google to return
results -- which typically don't meet the client's expectations of immediate
gratification -- the webmaster is unhappy and ventures off to find a better
traffic drawing method.
This is unfortunate, since often it is not the optimization work that is the
problem, but the webmaster's or site owner's work (or lack of it). Problems can
range through site architecture, design, usability, and coding language. Usually
webmasters cannot see how these areas effect the listings in the search results
pages, and therefore do not consider them valid points nor a component of
Search Engine Optimization.
Here on Search Engine Optimization
chat, we're going to show you how,
within one year, you can draw 10,000 or more visitors to your site daily.
Depending on your website or industry your numbers may vary, so we are using a
soft estimate. Some sites may draw closer to 15,000 while others may draw as few
as 5,000. Either way, those numbers should be enough to bring you substantial
revenue, depending on your product or services.
10.Search
Engine Optimization Content -- Before
you select a domain name you should be writing content. What should you write
about? Write about what you know and/or love. If you are a stockbroker then
write about stocks, what they are, how to buy them, how to sell them, how to
trade them, stock tips, and stock myths, and once you think you have enough
material for a nice website, stop and write double what you have. Remember that
content is king, information is power, and Google loves content, so you can
never have too much content.
If you start writing content before taking the steps below you will attain your
goal of driving traffic in the future. Adding content is the best overall step a
webmaster can take when setting out to build an online business. Consider where
you will use your content. Some is best used on your website, of course; however
you can also use content to give away as articles with anchor text links back to
your site. This is an important step in viral marketing.
9.Search Engine Optimization
Your website domain name -- Before you rush off and buy a keyword related domain
name, try to remember that you also will be building a brand name or corporate
image. While www.my-website-is-a-work-of-art.com is good for attracting the
search bots to your keywords if you are an artist with a website, will people
remember how to type that into a browser correctly? More importantly, will
anyone remember the name? If the keyword term in the URL is something that you
really want, it is better to build keyword-related directories and use those
terms when naming your files. Your brand is your image.
8.Search Engine Optimization
Hosting -- This seems like an easy choice, but in reality it is not. Your Web
business should be on a dedicated server, but many new businesses cannot easily
absorb the cost. If you must share space on a server try to find a hosting
company that will assign a unique Internet Protocol (IP) address. Regardless,
you must have all your website files on some form of backup media. I can't
emphasize this strongly enough. If you store your files anywhere on the server
and it is destroyed or confiscated, your business will no longer be open for
business -- and no one will know when or if you will be back. If your e-mail
address is tied into the service, make sure your customers have a back up e-mail
address at which to reach you.
7.Search
Engine Optimization Architecture -
Server - Unix or Windows? Unix is the favorite for many large websites, but
Windows is just as popular and capable of delivering to Fortune 500 websites. Be
sure to set up your website in a sensible manner, with folders named for your
keyword terms. These folders should include relevant files and file names that
relate to your chosen keyword term. Do not place your product information on
yellow widgets in the folder for blue widgets. Get references from other
websites on the server or other firms that have used the hosting company for
dedicated server environments before committing yourself and possibly needing to
move later.
Your site's navigation and ease of use are off the page factors that will also
help you win or lose in the Internet-based business world. Your website needs
clear and concise calls to action, to draw the visitor further into your site. A
site with 100 visitors a day that all stay on the home page will be out of
business before it has a chance to start.
Make sure to use a robots text file on your server to allow bots to crawl the
pages of your website and keep them out of spider traps such as cgi-bins. If
your website is dynamically generated use an Apache Rewrite; if using Unix or
Isapi rewrite if hosting from Windows servers in order to modify your website's
URL to be spider friendly. If you cannot place a robots text file on your
server, make sure to include a robots conclusion in your head tags.
6.Search Engine Optimization
Site Design and Usability -- This is probably the single largest inhibitor to
most sites ranking well on the search engines. Beautiful looking Web pages
constructed from a couple hundred little images, or that nice Flash-based
website, are very pleasing to the eye -- however, nether will do very well in
most competitive categories in the search engines. The site with all the images
will take forever to load, and the flash sites can't be crawled by the search
spiders very well. Google loves speed! Their spiders measure how long it takes
to return results for your search query, and it is usually done in fractions of
a second. Your website must also load this quickly for your users.
Separate the content of your site from its presentation using cascading style
sheets (CSS) and HTML where possible. These pages load super quick and are clean
in their coding. By implementing these steps into your site design and
architecture you move the content of your pages close to the top of your Web
page, where the search engine spider bots do most of their reading. When
considering what users like, simple wins over bells and whistles. Keep a
simplistic approach to the design. Make sure to use lots of white space and
definitive calls to action for your users.
5.Search
Engine Optimization Content -- I know I
said this was also number 10. Now why would I mention it again? Perhaps it is
the single most important thing any website owner or would-be Internet business
czar can do to drive targeted traffic to their website. Write, write some more,
then when your wrist hurts and your head hurts, write even more. Make sure when
you write that you're writing as if talking to a friend. Oh, and don't toot your
own horn so much, but tell the user what you do for them in exchange for what it
is you seek from them. It's much easier to pry open the purse of a friend than
the wallet of an uninspired user.
Make sure you are writing keyword enriched content for your website. Keyword
enriched means using your keyword term about three (3) to four (4) times per
page of content. Since most pages will only be able to rank on the Search Engine
Results Pages (SERPs) for two keyword terms, concentrate on writing about the
two terms that match the content theme and your traffic goals. Try to churn out
one new page everyday. Page length should be between 500 and 750 words. Search
engine spiders cannot store much more than that per page. If your content is
over 1000 words, try to add a few hundred more words and then split it into two
pages. Content is King!
4.Search Engine Optimization
Optimization -- This point covers the basic search engine optimization of your
website's pages. Use you primary keyword term and two secondary terms at least
once each in the following areas, no matter which engine you target: title tag,
meta description tag, meta keywords tag, URL, folder name, file name, and one
time each in the image alt tags of the top three images on your page, three to
four times in the page content 2 at the top, once in the middle and close to the
bottom of the last paragraph of content.
Use the keyword terms as anchor links to other pages on your site or to other
well-ranked authority sites in your industry. Use it in your head line tag, once
in bold and once in italic font. You can even go so far as to underline the
keyword terms one time on each page. Try to do this in areas where your
sentences start to meld together as one on your pages, to make the readers eyes
scan your content more efficiently.
3.Search Engine Optimization
Putting it all together -- When you are finally ready to put your website
online, bring in all of the pieces you have put into place. Upload all of your
pages to your server. Make sure to include your robots text file, and check that
any htaccess changes you need to make are done. Once your site is online,
navigate through every page. Be sure to check that none of your links are
broken. Test your forms to ensure they work correctly. Also make sure email sign
ups come through to your in box.
After the site is online and working completely, you should start to submit it
to the search engines and directories. When considering your submission to
Google, you might want to get a link to your site from a site being indexed by
Googlebot already. Some observers speculate that allowing Google to find you
through a link is better than submitting your site to Google. Make sure to
submit manually to DMOZ. If you have the money, pay for inclusion into
Yahoo.com's Directory listings.
2.Search
Engine Optimization Monitoring and Web
Analytics -- You need some sort of analysis software to track your visitors'
habits when they come to your website, or you will need to learn how to use the
tools provided by your Web host. These stats tell you valuable information which
can help you optimize your website for your users, which is what search engine
optimization is meant to be when it is reduced to its basic core.
You will also need a way to monitor your website's keyword ranking results in
the various search engine and directory results pages. There are many free, low
cost and professional software titles that will allow you to do this. With these
reports you can see which pages need tweaking in order to increase the ranking
results.
1.Search Engine Optimization
The number one way to reach Google's front pages is: Add content everyday! I
know I am repeating myself, but it's that important for you to understand the
importance of doing this. A page of good keyword optimized content will do more
for you than five links from Google PR6 websites. Answer your website's email,
market with a newsletter that is double opt in, and participate daily on the
Internet as much as you can, such as forums and blogs. Those that allow keyword
focused signatures are best.
The Internet is a popularity party; the more popular your website, the higher in
the results pages you will soon find it. Following these ten steps will allow
you to receive between 5,000 and 15,000 visitors daily to your site in under a
year. Oh, and did I mention to add a page of content a day?
